DIVING
There are a number of good diving companies on the Island. Most are based in Halkida or Eretria.

Horse riding
They are a number of riding centres throughout the Island - Halkida, Eretria, Agia Anna.
The biggest one is in Mytikas, close to Halkida, where there is professional tuition.
Competitions are held on a regular basis, either at club level or with other clubs in Greece.

Sailing
Many of the larger beaches have sailing boats or catamarans for hire. There is a big fleet of catamarans at club Mediteranee close to Aidipsos.
Clubs offering tuition and competition exist in Halkida, Aliveri, Limni and Oreoi for lasers and optimists.

Walking and Mountaineering
Evia is a walker's paradise. There are thousends of km of mountains trails for those interested in mountaineering, hiking or climbing.
A number of guide books give descriptions of possible trails. You can contact the mountaineering club of Halkida which has its own Mountain Rescue centre just below the summit of Mount Dirfhis (height 1 743m).

Rafting
At certain times of year, the rivers are in spate and offer good rafting. Alternatively Apollon Sports offers a number of different trips on mainland Greece.

Skiing
Greece is not only sunshine and beaches! Its mountains offer good snow skiing and there are a number of mountain resorts.
The biggest of these at Mt Panassos is only 2 hours drive from Halkida and is an easy day trip.
At week-ends, local companies offer a complete ski package to the resort.

Off shore Sailing
Halkida has the biggest fleet in Greece of competitive yachts, ranging from 20 to 50 feet in length.
The yachts compete in three classes with races every two weeks during the summer months.
Races range from short 5 hours up to a full 24 hour ocean race.
Because of demand, a new marina is currently under construction in the centre of Halkida.
